HOW I GOT STARTED IN THE DJ BUSINESS

I’ve always been interested in music of all kinds since my grade school days even doing my first DJ gig in the 7th grade although I didn’t realize that was what I was doing.  ArmedGary - Master Jammer with my 45 RPM record changer,  an old TV chasse for and amplifier and my massive collection of 45 records totaling 9 I was off to the races or so I thought.  Man I really thought I was hot stuff until the first 3 kids entered the gym bouncing basketballs and the music could no longer be heard.  I was crushed!  With a very heavy heart in hand  I pulled all that stuff home in my little red Radio Flyer wagon and forgot about it.  In 1965 I really started collecting music in earnest.   That consisted of 45 RPM records,  long playing albums better known  as L.P’s and Reel to Reel  open face tapes.

After returning home from Vietnam in 1969 I got into very high quality stereo equipment.  Ever improving and upgrading the system until I had several thousand dollars worth.

I moved to Bryan, Ohio in 1978 and became a very close friend of Thomas Molitierno who was an attorney and a Radio DJ at WBNO and he did DJ’ing on the side as well.  One evening while at my house he was looking at all my stuff and said “you should take all that stuff on the road and make some money”.  I said what do you mean?  He said doing mobile DJ’ing.  I said no I couldn’t do that & he said he had paid for his law school education by DJ’ing.  He advised that he had a wedding gig on Saturday why not come along and I’ll show you how easy it is.

Well that was it and the rest is history – Please read the article “Spinning a DisK”  and you’ll see just how easy it isn’t!  I only wish I had been the one to have written the article because that’s just what happened my first few times out.
